Scholarships
The CEF Project scholarship fund, founded in 2004, has provided
scholarships to over 130 students. The recipients are orphans and
vulnerable children in need of financial assistance to be able to attend primary and secondary school, which is the Ugandan equivalent of high school. The
fees to attend school per term range from $35 to $50 depending on primary or secondary
school, which places school out of the range of possibility for many
children. Many single parents and students have come to us for help, explaining that they
have been "chased out" of school following an inability to cover their
fees. Some students even resort to ‘sugar daddies’ to help them pay for
their fees in exchange for sexual relationships, which contributes to
the rise in HIV and syphilis infections in the adolescent population.
Goals:
- Provide primary and secondary education to
students in greatest need in the village Districts of Uganda, to help
increase the skills and knowledge of the young people in the district
and to improve their health and well-being
- Fund all students through graduation from primary -secondary school
- Increase the extent of the funding
such that exam fees, uniforms, and rising tuition costs will not be a
problem for scholarship recipients.
- Support the Millennium Development
Goal established by the United Nations – to eradicate gender disparity
in secondary school education completely by 2015
